A Wolf at War
Chapter 18: Embers
“So you finally made it back to Warsaw, we've come full circle huh?”  Andrea opened her mouth then closed it, seemingly wanting to say something further, but then thought better of it.  After a few seconds she hesitantly asked.
“So those scaars I saw on your back...” I nodded my head slowly, though it had been decades since those terrible days at Colditz, the scars etched in silver would stay with me for life.
“Yes, while I have gained quite a few more over the years, most of them are from my time at Colditz Castle.” I replied calmly, but I couldn't hide the twitch that came just above my right eyebrow. Even after all these decades just thinking of those horrible months spent at Colditz made my skin crawl, years after the war nightmares still had me waking up in cold sweats but thankfully they grew less and less frequent as time went by.  Andrea gave me a sympathetic look but realized it was a su

Chapter 17: Pack Reunion
“Come on, come on please don't keep me waiting.” I muttered to myself as I paced around the safe room waiting for Agata. After the awkward end to the evening, Agata had left me to sleep here for the night before retiring to her personal apartment in the next building over. Thought it was barely past the crack of dawn I was wide awake, the euphoric adrenaline of excitement and a thousand other emotions coursing through my veins made it almost impossible to relax. Today was the day, the day Agata had promised we would travel to Zoliborz and find my family. Excitement and dread were both clawing at my chest as I let out an inpatient growl. 'What if she has moved? Or was put in a camp somewhere? What if mother was dead?' The possibilities were endless and none of them seemed to work in my favor, and it was driving me crazy. The series of locks suddenly began to click and I sprang to my feet, 'finally' I thought in relief as the last few he

A Wolfs Den
It took only a few days of travel to get from the Czech border to the outskirts of the city as a wolf, it was a lonely trip but my life had been lonely for quite some time. My thoughts were scattered, part of me knew I was being paranoid but in occupied territory every human could be a threat.  Every twig snapping, every odd odor seemed to put me on edge.  Every night my sleeps was wracked with night terrors, even though he was dead by my hands the bald bastard was still torturing me. Despite the constant fear and anxiety which I had been living in for the past two years a new, very foreign feeling was slowly starting to fill my veins, hope.
The rags I had been forced to wear in the castle had long since been torn to shreds so the first opportunity I got I stole some food and clothes from an unsuspecting farmhouse on outskirts of the city.  From there I walked as a human, wearing a simple pair of black slacks, a white undershirt, sus

Chapter 15: A Caged Wolf
I don't remember much after that bag was placed over my head, the last thing I remember was being injected with something then... darkness.  It felt like I was swimming in blackness for a long time but not long at all at the same time. Then just as suddenly as I had slipped into unconsciousness, I was awake but still in darkness. At first I had thought I was still wearing the black bag but I wasn't, I was lying on cold stone in a pitch black room. My head was throbbing and the rest of my body felt as if it had been dragged behind a streetcar for several kilometers.  I tried to get more comfortable, rolling to lay on my side only to feel a heavy weight shift on my neck. 'What the hell?' I thought, reaching up to feel smooth leather covered iron hanging heavily from my neck.
“The hell is this?” I muttered, tugging at the collar only to feel something sharp dig into the back of my neck. 'Ouch!' I thought, wincing and rubbing my

Chapter 14: Trauer Eines Jägers
"Ok so this one should be easy. You ready? Ciężki ruch oddział czołgów, artylerii, piechoty zmechanizowanej pozycji wschód w kierunku Mińska. Go!" I stared at James expectantly over the piece of paper, it was several weeks after the Alpha's funeral and I was helping James at the Polish Desk.  I had been giving him small lessons since we returned from France, just simple nouns and verbs but recently he had been very eager to learn. To my surprise, he was picking it up rather quickly, much quicker than I had picked up Finnish or English. James bowed his head in concentration, pinching the bridge of his nose as he thought hard.
“Ummm lets see, is it something along the lines of 'soldiers moving east towards Minsk?' I think there was also something in there about tanks and artillery, is that right?”  He asked looking at me hopefully, I grinned as I read off the paper.

The return from France took its toll on us all but none had it worse than James who's wounds healed extremely slowly, yet none of us could figure out why.... Blood loss meant he remained extremely weak throughout the whole ordeal but more than that he seemed to have just given up, he hardly ate or drank anything the entire time.  Gordon and I carried him the entire time while the two Betas lead the way, what was strange was that James hardly spoke a word and never so much as complained the entire time.  By the time we made it to the Channel and linked up with our Resistance contact we were all exhausted, crossing under the cover of darkness I had to admit... the English coast had never been such a welcomed sight.
The minute the small boat reached the shallows two sets of headlights flicked on near the top of the beach, illuminating the shore and silhouetting six figures who's long shadows stretched almost to the waters edge.  Slo

“We’ll kill them all…”." Gordon nodded slightly before slumping back in his seat, doing his best to hide the tears I knew were there.  What seemed like hours later the halftrack ground to a halt and the engine died, standing I stretched my stiff limbs slightly only to realize Gordon remained still.  I threw off the steel helmet I had dawned and replaced it once more with my red barrette with the silver cross.  Gordon seemingly reluctantly rose to his feet, gathering his Bren before walking to the steel door, throwing it open, and walking outside.  Following suit I was taken aback by how calm the night air was, the surrounding forest felt soothing, a wolf thing I guess.  Ahead of us, the betas were standing with the human captain from the motor pool, a large map unfurled in front of them.
"...follow the coast till you reach the Spanish border and you will be home free."  The man folded

"Brace yourselves!" Someone yelled behind me but it was too late.  With a deafening crash and the wailing groan of tearing metal the bow of slammed into the docks tall wooden gates.
I was thrown forward roughly and probably would have been launched over the railing had it not been for the turret’s shoulder braces, Gordon and James were not so lucky.  Gordon flew into the rail with tremendous force as James hit the mounted machine gun with a sickening metallic pang that made me cringe.  Shaking my head and sore shoulders I quickly recovered and hurriedly moved from behind the gun to see James bleeding from a gash on his forehead, I was concerned but it must have looked worse than it really was.  It took only a few moments and a handful of steady calming breaths before he was back on his feet, quickly wiping the blood from his eyes he retrieved his beret and stood ready to go into the fray.

Chapter 11: The Best Laid Plans
I stopped as I realized that Mrs. Barson was slumped sideways in her chair, the sound of soft breathing permeating the quiet early morning air.  I couldn't help but chuckle, she had been very eager to hear my story but as the hours dragged on, I could see the jet lag taking its toll.  As quietly as I could I stood up and stretched myself out as the first band of light appeared over the horizon, signaling another day was just over the horizon.  I was sure she had a hotel waiting for her but I couldn't help bring myself to disturb her slumber.  So as gently as i could I hoisted her out of her chair and carried her bridal style to my room where i set her down in my bed.  She didn’t so much as stir as I slipped off her black heels and set her glasses on the nightstand before pulling the covers over her sleeping form. She murmured something as she curled in the bed and fell deep into sleep.  A frown began to f

Chapter 10: Consequences
Time flew by as I fell into the rhythm of the castle, training in the morning, espionage in the afternoon, and leisure time in the evening that I would usually spend with Gordon and James.  After the bombing What, When, Where, and How laid low for several weeks but were soon back to work monitoring the remaining Thule and Iron Claw.  Despite the terrible retaliation the bombing did have its intended effect, the killings in the Ghetto ceased entirely and for the most part the five remaining vampires stayed in their barracks, drinking nothing but animal blood.  ‘It’s bad that some innocents were killed but in war there is always collateral damage.  Just think of how many people you saved in the long run, because they weren’t going to stop’ Gordon had told me.
Over the next year training evolved and developed into much more than hand to hand combat, Wallace had told us we were undergoing the same tra

Chapter 9:  Pack Mentality
Waiting outside the 'Alpha's' door was one of the largest men I have ever seen.  He was almost as tall as I was in my were-form with long auburn hair and a matching grizzly beard that obscured much of his face. Despite his imposing appearance he smiled warmly down at me.
"So yer the Pole the whole castles been talkin about. The name's Devon Wallace and I am a Beta for the pack but most people just call me Wallace, it’s nice to meet ya."  I took his massive hand and shook it.
"Jakub Jaroslaw, it is nice to meet you too."
"I've been told to show ya around the castle so if you would follow me." He put a hand on my shoulder and steered me out of the hallway.
"Beta McKinnon said you tried to put up a fight in the holding cells downstairs... Is that true?" I gave a small sigh of exasperation thinking back to my final attack which would have probably put Magnus in the hospital, but was so easily defeated.

Polish Text will from now on be in italics
Days turned to weeks, weeks turned to months, and as time passed Scotland began to feel more and more like home.  The great misty forests nestled between the mountains of the highlands made for a wolf’s perfect habitat… and a perfect hunting ground.  Within my first month in the highlands, I had caught my first rabbit.  I had no clue what compelled me to do so but the moment I saw the poor creature hopping from the underbrush I instinctively bolted after it, shifting as I ran.  Within a matter of seconds the bunny was dangling lifeless from my jaws, I felt disgusted with myself the moment I realized what I had done.  I was no stranger to death but killing this bunny felt much more personal, I hadn’t shot it from a distance, no I had cracked its neck between my jaws felt its blood run through my teeth, it scared me more when I realized that I was not so much disgusted b

Chapter 7: When a Wolf Howls in the Woods…
The next few weeks with the Hakansons were… uneventful to say the least, but I was grateful for every second.  I was happy to not be getting shot at and to have a peaceful place to shift and push the limits of my wolfish body.  After what had happened on the ship I experimented and it was true, I could transform only certain parts of my body.  Thankfully I hadn’t heard anymore voices in my head since that day on the ship, but I did have to dodge Katya and Sophia who seemed determined to drink my blood… though Sonya was quite nice to me.  I had slept quite well at the mansion, not having to worry about surprise attacks or would be murderers but one night in early April I had much difficulty getting to sleep.  Something just didn’t seem right, my wolf felt on edge all day but I wasn’t too worried, it had probably been because I had been cornered leaving the bathroom th

What is Democratic Socialism?
Democratic socialists believe that both the economy and society should be run democratically—to meet public needs, not to make profits for a few. To achieve a more just society, many structures of our government and economy must be radically transformed through  greater economic and social democracy so that ordinary Americans can participate in the many decisions that affect our lives. Democracy and socialism go hand in hand. All over the world, wherever the idea of democracy has taken root, the vision of socialism has taken root as well—everywhere but in the United States. Because of this, many false ideas about socialism have developed in the US. With this pamphlet, we hope to answer some of your questions about socialism.
Doesn't socialism mean that the government will own and run everything?
Democratic socialists do not want to create an all-powerful government bureaucracy. But we do not want big corporate bureaucracies to control

Hello everyone! Sorry for the huge and unexpected absence from writing and this site in general.  This semester is known as the 'Hell Semester' for my major, the name explains itself pretty well sadly :(

It's been hard finding time to write between classes, work, projects outside, and finding time for fun however the chapter is about 70% done and I accidentally wrote spillover for the next chapter so a little progress on that haha. I'll work on it today and hopefully tomorrow if I am lucky but will be finished soon.

Till next time!
